SAP HANA Reporting

 Introduction To SAP HANA Reporting

SAP HANA is the best selling product in the history of SAP, helping companies solve data, reporting, latency challenges and unleash their potential with a real-time platform. The data loaded from SAP Source, Non-SAP, and flat file through SAP SLT, SAP BODS is created into information view (Attribute View, Analytic View, and Calculation View).

With the use of Information Modeling feature in SAP HANA, we can create different information views Attribute Views, Analytic Views, Calculation Views.

Now here, we discuss the information view in reporting tools.

SAP HANA Reporting Tools (Information View)

Information views can be consumed by different reporting tools like
  • SAP BI (Business Intelligence)
  • SAP BO (Business Objects)
  • Crystal Report
  • SAP Lumira
  • Reporting in Microsoft Excel
These reporting tools enable Business Managers, Analysts, Sales Managers, and Senior management employees to analyze the historical information to create business scenarios and to decide business strategy of the company.

By installing SAP HANA client software (*.exe file) will make all the drivers available on the PC for connecting to reporting tools to SAP HANA.

We will discuss SAP BO, SAP Lumira, and Microsoft Excel to access SAP HANA information view in this tutorial.

The choice of the reporting tool depends upon the type of reports that are required.

Reporting in SAP BI (Business Intelligence)

BI is an SAP Product in which raw data will be cleaned, business logic applied, processed and provide meaningful information to the user.

SAP BI is a data warehouse and reporting tool which provides the user-friendly environment.

SAP BI support many databases, but architecture is as below when we migrate from source data to SAP HANA

SAP BI is three-tier architecture -

1. Database Server -  In this, data is physically stored in ODS, PSA, Infocube.
2. Application Server - Data is accessed from database server  and processed.
3. Presentation Server - Data is displayed to the user.

Reporting in SAP BO (Business Objects)

SAP BO is a collection of different distinct tools. It is a preferred reporting tool in SAP oriented landscapes.

Reporting in Crystal Report

SAP crystal report is a popular Windows-based report writer (report generation program) that helps programmers to create reports from a variety of data sources with a minimum of written code. The data can be accessed from most widely-used databases and can integrate the data from multiple databases within one report using Open Database Connectivity (ODBC).

Reporting in SAP Lumira

It is also called as SAP Visual Intelligence that enables business users to access, transform, and visualize data of any size in a repeatable and self-service manner. SAP Lumira's drag-and-drop interface is easy to become familiar with, and with a few clicks data from multiple sources can be gathered, combined, and visualized.

SAP Lumira's features include:

  • Integrate the wide-scale insights and maximizes business knowledge.
  • Accelerate the decision making with fact-based solutions.
  • Increases self-service data usage without much workload to the IT department.
  • Visualize any amount of data in real time using SAP HANA and simple deployment to mobile devices.

Reporting in Microsoft Excel

S
Using the connection SAP with MS Office, data from SAP application can be spread to Microsoft Office Excel. Main benefits of SAP reporting in Excel:

  • Eliminates copy-and-paste based data collecting mechanism from SAP to MS Excel
  • To get real-time data from SAP within Excel with a single-click refresh
  • Allows users to update SAP from within Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Avoid any data integrity issues of copying.

Conclusion:

SAP Reporting tools enable to create dynamic dashboards that can be accessed, automated and presented with a formula driven methodology.
